First "big girl" meal!

So tonight Delanah had her first baby led weaning meal...pear, chicken and broccoli! Man did she have a good time! I forgot to put a plate in the fridge to cool down her food so she could eat with us and instead put her broccoli and chicken on a plate in the freezer...then I had to leave it out on the counter to warm up! Ooops! She loved her appetizer, her pear, and just went to town on it :) I left the peat when I introduced the chicken and broccoli...her eyes got so big when she saw her new "toys":) The broccoli very quickly got turned into drumsticks and was beaten mercilessly on her high chair until one "tree" got chucked off the side, and into the waiting mouth of Bailey. Okay, so Bailey wasn't exactly waiting with an open mouth, but she got very excited when she realized there was a very strong possibility of more food raining down! Ahhh...no sweeping after meals with a dog in the house :)
She just loved the chicken...mmmm :) She would stick some of a piece in her mouth and reach out for the other broccoli "tree" and pear with her other hands to play with. It was so much fun to watch! Haven't had a dinner that entertaining in a long time. I think now that we have the first meal out of the way that Dave and I are feeling a bit more secure in our decision to follow the baby led weaning route. She is learning so much, and having such a good time!
I was talking to my mom this arvo and was explaining more about the baby led weaning, and she shocked the crap out of me by telling me that she did the same thing with my brother and I! She said her mom did it as well, it just didn't have a name then. Honestly, I expected some major resistance from my mom on this one, we have differing ideas on baby-rearing, but am quite happy that she is on board with this, it really does make things easier for me to have more support. Not everyone (ie the majority of people) know about this or believe in it, so there is a lot of resistance out there. I have found a group online that is doing the same thing with their babies and it's so nice to have people to turn to and share with! This is going to make things a lot easier and a lot more fun during our trip to Oz as we aren't going to need to stress about getting a blender for her to eat during our time there!
