Okay, so from birth Delanah has been a great little pooper since birth. In the last few months it has settled down to about once a day, although some days I am luckier than others and get one major poop and some complimentary smaller ones throughout the day. Well, I have been worried that with solids she would start "binding up" as they say, but have been lucky with that. Apparently all is well until banana comes on the scene! She hasn't pooped in 3 days!!!!! Poor thing is tooting up a royal storm, and they are quite rank, but nothing, nada, zip. She strained today, and again let out some stinky ones, but no poop! I am starting to get worried. I expressed some concern about this before we left to a nurse in her pediatrician's office and was told I could give her some children's prune juice. Okay, no worries! Guess which country doesn't have children's prune juice? Better yet, I love all the looks I was getting tonight as I was asking people for it! Oye!!!!
I forgot to pack a bottle when we left, so tonight we were on the bottle hunt. As Dave mentioned in the car ride to the mall, I picked a good night. I completely forgot that the world shuts down at 5pm here! Thursday is "late night" shopping (stores stay open until a whopping 9pm), so we were indeed "lucky" that Delanah chose this afternoon/evening to be miserable. My poor girl woke from her afternoon nap crying and it really never stopped. She was straining/tooting and beating her hands against her mouth, pulling her ear and gnawing like crazy. So not only could she not poop, but those dang teeth were giving her issues as well. I hated that there was nothing I could do for her. I tried nursing, as she was asking for it, but I can only take so much of being used as a chew toy before I call it quits. Eventually it was in the Ergo and slow dancing until an exhausted Delanah fell asleep. I did need to give her 2 doses of Tylenol today, which is way more than what we have ever given, but she was just so uncomfortable!
Tonight we picked up a Dr. Bown bottle and some pear juice (ages 6 months to 3 years). After some reading online, I think I am going to try just water tomorrow and see if we can get those bowels moving. I have a feeling I should expect a lovely butt-splosion, but if it means she feels better, so be it.
We had to cancel dinner plans tonight, but I think we're going to be able to catch up with them tomorrow for lunch, so all is good there. Poor Dave is exhausted (he never went back to sleep after Delanah woke at 3:3 this morning) and in bed, Delanah fussed for only a few minutes before she was out and I am heading there as soon as I hit "publish post". Who knew my new bedtime was going to be 9pm?
